LA GRAN SEMÍRAMIS

SUMMARY

Semíramis arrives disguised as a man to the battlefield of Batra and proposes a plan of attack against the army of Prince Alexander. Her plan gives them the victory and the expansion of new grounds for the great empire of Assyria. This is the beginning of a chain of events featuring Semíramis, an ambitious woman filled with a series of vices, and who is motivated by a distorted concept of love and justice. The result is a study on ambition, power, the courtly world and how the concept of fortune affects the decisions and lives of the characters. La gran Semíramis is an almost unknown theatrical gem, one of the pioneers of the horror genre from the Spanish Golden Age. The production directed by Diego Chiri was the first time the play was performed in the American stage. Produced at Repertorio Español in NYC during the summer of 2015.
